I was explaining google adsense to a colleague the other day and how you get income from it.  I started using adsense on this site briefly but quickly realised that it could pick up on a certain word (like ‘addicted’) and you have a row of misdirected ads.

Having decided that the text ads are unsuitable I decided to try out the adsense search bar and I don’t think it looks too bad.

All the discussion got me thinking though about how cool it would be if students who are designing websites for NCEA could put adsense on their sites and publish them.  If their work has the potential to make money that would surely give more incentive to be more creative and innovative.  It would also expose them to the real world and real technology rather than just theory.

The question would remain of who owns the rights to the work, but I don’t see why a student shouldn’t be rewarded financially for their efforts, heck in some schools in England students get paid just to turn up.

How do we make it happen? Well instead of telling the teachers who deliver that content, I tell the students instead, it is the fastest way to make a change.
