Free Yourself

One of the issues I have working in computer rooms is that I tend to be tied to a desk at the front of the class when I am teaching. When I get up to move around the students I often have to return to my desk to re-demonstrate or reinforce teaching points.

Enter the Logitech MX Air
This bad boy arrived a couple of weeks ago but I was too tied up with organising camp to have a play. Today I have used it with two classes and I am very impressed. Where it worked most successfully was with setting up year 7 with individual blogs, I was able to roam the classroom and click between web pages as and when I needed. The advantage this has over a regular wireless mouse is that I don’t have to put it on a desk to use it or be in sight of the laptop.
The hardware comes with Windows drivers but a small download from Logitech and you have OSX drivers, although it does require a restart, it worked perfectly. Customisation is easy in the System Preferences and I was able to map one of the buttons to the control key to enable screen zoom on OSX.
The MX Air also works as a regular mouse when you place it on the desk. Overall a good piece of kit.
