The Educated Kiwi
Wiimot_ed
As part of our service and standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us we are happy to support schools in getting Wiimote IWB’s.
As you can see from the ads down the side of this site we have the pens for sale for $35 and the whole kit for $400. You then have the pleasure of putting them up or if you are local we can do it for you/talk you through it.
Having used both a smartboard and a wiimote board in my day to day teaching neither I nor my students notice a difference. The difference is in the overall cost to the school and the fact that as a department we can all have one and therefore share resources. If the smart/activ/whatever board was more affordable we would say get one of those because of the software. Let me say that again it is the software that makes these boards great but then the average teacher can do an awful lot with ppt/keynote/and then some of the free software add ons. Microsofts Onenote is fantastic or you can start to try kindlelab
As a bit of a FAQ I thought I would post these answers.
What is in the kits?
The Kit includes the modified wiimote, power pack, mounting bracket and some cable for the bluetooth syncing switch and the switch itself plus one pen. So essentially you can put it up and be using it in about fifteen minutes. The software you download for free (we might start chucking a cdrom in with it on anyway but it is always best to get the latest version from the web anyway. For PC use http://www.smoothboard.net/ and Mac wiimote-whiteboard.
What has been done to the wiimote?
The modifications to the wiimote are mains power and a switch that is cabled to the wiimote to sync the bluetooth connection.
How do the mounts work?
Our mounts are actually designed for a round pole and in that case just clip around the pole. The one in the photo is our mark two mount which I am negotiating a price on but will be about $80 painted or $120 powdercoated.
For anymore information have a look at the wiimote project site or email us @tek.
